Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario V. Lopez, Chairperson of the 2024 Bar Examinations, highlighted the ‘pivotal role’ of the CPRA and the New Lawyer’s Oath in the legal community at the 70th Commencement Exercises of the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Manila — College of Law on June 29, 2024.

Justice Lopez pointed out that an important improvement of the New Lawyer’s Oath over the old version is the former’s emphasis on adherence to the rule of law characterized by justice vis-à-vis the old oath’s “limited focus on obeying laws and legal orders issued by duly constituted authorities.”

The 2024 Bar Examinations Chairperson likewise emphasized the role of the San Sebastian family in the lives of the graduates as they start their respective journeys towards becoming lawyers.

“There will be 12,186 people who will take the #BarNiJLo2024,” he said, adding that this is the biggest number of expected examinees thus far in the history of the Bar Examinations.

“At this juncture, I pray that a substantial portion of the successful examinees will come from San Sebastian, and perhaps establish also a record in the history of SSC for its performance in the Bar Exams. Take this opportunity to build a legacy.”

“For sure, as you embark in your journey as lawyers, you will encounter challenges. There will be doubts and second guesses…But we have confidence in you. Remember that your San Sebastian family will always be your life guide, steering you on, as you make our country a better and more just place for all of us and for future generations,”

said the Justice.

Justice Lopez concluded his message by assuring the aspriring lawyers that there is no reason to be anxious or fearful as regards taking the 2024 Bar Examinations.

“It will neither be difficult nor easy. Exacto lang. The questions will be geared toward practical skills and jurisprudential perspectives to produce fundamentally practice-ready and potentially capable lawyers,”

he said.
